A blog by Kelly Spalding
Oh hey Fall…..I’ve missed you so! I get very excited when the temperature starts to drop and the leaves put on a beautiful show, football is once again the focus of the weekend and soup is back on the menu at our house!
Summer has a way of making entertaining more relaxed and laid back. Sunday brunch is a favorite at our house. The Bloody Mary is made for day drinking and a Bloody Mar bar at home is easy and so much fun. Put together all of your favorite garnishes in mason jars and let your guest go wild.
Thanksgiving Dinner Side Dishes
The Turkey might be the star but the sides are what really makes Thanksgiving dinner special. There are a few staples that are a must at the Spalding’s spread and my Southern Dressing(no stuffing around these parts!) and Cranberry Applesauce are on the top of the list. Every time I make my mama’s dressing recipe (with a few changes here and there) it brings back memories of her in the kitchen.
If you are like me and fall is the busiest time of the year, you sometimes wait until the last minute to start deciding about your Thanksgiving gathering. Well don’t worry we are going to countdown to Thanksgiving with some great ideas for decorating, some favorite recipes as well as a few “Thanksgiving hacks” to help you pull it all off with grace and dare I say…..ENJOY the day yourself!
Halloween is when I really let out my creative juices and go all out with decorations. I start planning our family themed costumes in July and can hardly wait for October to get here. Not only is October my birthday month but it is also Breast Cancer awareness month so I thought a glamorous party for my best girlfriends would be the perfect way to celebrate.
Easter was always one of my favorites when my children were little. We would spend an entire day decorating eggs, making treats and getting ready for the Easter Bunny! I laugh when I remember hubby and I trying to hide eggs (outside or if the weather was being difficult, inside) without our children or the neighborhood children seeing us.
A Southern Porch Makeover
Home may be where the heart is but the porch is where the fun is! On a southern porch, it’s all about hospitality, charm and sittin’ and sippin’ and that especially goes for the front porches on Main Street here in Franklin, Tennessee.
Summer entertaining is a favorite of mine. The backyard is blooming and I am ready to have friends over. Brunch is a perfect meal to serve on the weekend. I love a lazy Sunday gathering and the easiest way to make sure it stays lazy is to make it a potluck!
Does your front porch or entrance need a Spring makeover? Do you have the basics but it doesn’t have that welcoming feel and you aren’t sure how to pull it all together. Kelly Spalding Designs is offering a fun porch mini-makeover for one lucky person just in time for warmer weather.
Mason Jar Cocktails
Like that old Barbara Mandrel song, I was Country when Country wasn’t cool. We drank out of mason jars way before it became a trend. Growing up in rural Kentucky I thought everyone had a huge garden and had to spend summers helping to tend it.
Gingerbread House Decorating Party
For me Christmas isn’t about the things, it’s about the traditions and one of my favorite Christmas traditions is decorating Gingerbread Houses. We have always hosted our family Christmas gathering and with a house full of people and lots of food prep going on, I wanted to have something fun to occupy the kids and that is when the Gingerbread house decorating extravaganza started.
His & Her Office Redo
The home office is often the last room to get any attention. It becomes a store-all room where things get put when you aren’t sure what else to do with it. My client had just that problem. We had redone her living room, dining room and touched up the kitchen and now she wanted to attack the office.
Faux Real Mineral Paint
We are excited to introduce Faux Real Mineral Paint at Kelly Spalding Designs!
Movie Night Popcorn
Movie night is a favorite family activity at our house and of course popcorn is a must. I love to try out new recipes and the kids really enjoy being the taste testers. At least one time during the summer I let the kids invite friends over and I treat them to a FUN night of snacks and of course a really good movie.
Let’s talk Mardi Gras y’all! My Louisiana roots run deep and I always want to be in New Orleans this time of year but instead I bring a little cajun goodness to Tennessee. Here are some easy ideas for you to do the same.
Star Spangled Picnic
Summer means gathering in backyards, on patios and on park lawns to dine al fresco with family and friends. And with the 4th of July just a few days away, there’s no better reason to pack a picnic for the fireworks show.Summer means gathering in backyards, on patios and on park lawns to dine al fresco with family and friends. Talk Derby To me
There are few things more sacred to a born and bred Kentucky girl than the Kentucky Derby. It is the one time of year that all eyes are on my home state for the most exciting two minutes in sports. Oh, how I love the beautiful horses, the fabulous hats, the stunning roses and, of course, the bourbon…y’all….lots and lots of bourbon!
Stylish Halloween Party
Halloween is my favorite holiday to entertain. The possibilities are endless and you can let your imagination run wild.
My Wonderful Life
I have a wonderful life….really I do. I tell you that not to brag but so you know how grateful I am. My life isn’t perfect by any stretch of the imagination but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
