Matthew & Alicon Part 1

I love planning weddings, but I really love planning weddings for friends.  My friend Courtenay introduced me to her brother Matthew and his fiance Alicon a few months before their wedding.  At that time they were talking about a private ceremony on a beach far away and maybe a send off party here for Franklin friends.  No need for a wedding planner….just some friendly advice and suggestions.  Over the next couple of months plans slowly changed (two or three times) and then it was time to roll up my sleeves and help them bring their unique vision to life on a conservative budget.

Once they decided exactly what they wanted I knew it was going to be just perfect!  A small intimate ceremony at Matthew’s parents house (a beautiful historic home in downtown Franklin) and a larger reception at The Red House, a favorite venue of mine!  I was so excited about the red and turquoise color palette, which fit the couple’s personality and style!

The dusting of snow was perfect….just as I planned it!

A private wedding ceremony is incredibly intimate and meaningful.

A sake toast!  I ordered personalized shot glasses for the favors.

During the set up someone knocked the sign off the table…it is a little crooked.

A special venue in downtown Franklin, Tennessee.

So many fun details to show you…stay tuned for Part 2!

A Romantic Southern Wedding

Historic Carnton is one of my favorite wedding venues in Franklin, Tennessee.  This past October I planned a very sweet couple’s wedding….with attention to detail and special touches that fit their style “perfectly.”

After meeting with the bride and finding out some details, I created a custom design plan for their wedding.  Most of their guests were traveling from the north, so I wanted to make sure we showed good southern hospitality from the invitations to the grand send off.

I developed a travel theme using antique suitcases as display for the escort cards made of baggage tags.  Instead of numbers on the tables, each were named after an important city in the couple’s life.  Each city had a picture of the couple with a story; it was very personal and a huge hit with their guests.

I wanted something special on the menu that would really say southern comfort food, and of course my first thought was Mac & Cheese. Lucky for me the couple loved the idea and were all for it.  Daily Dish knocked it out of the park with a crowd pleasing Mac & Cheese bar!  Yes that’s right…but we made it all fancy by serving it in stemless martini glasses!

The wedding favors were Mason jars that the guests used for drinks all night and then took home with them to remember their time south of the “Mason” Dixon line.

I also made grapevine wreath chandeliers to hang over the head table.  Thank you to Nashville Event Lighting for making that work just like I had it planned in my head!

Here are a few photos from that very perfect day in October!

A Carnton Wedding…

August 14, 2010 } Blog, My Franklin Favorites, Real Weddings, Wedding inspirations { by Kelly | 4 Comments

I love Franklin-really love it.  One of the things I love most about Franklin is its history.  (Southerners just love history.)  So of course planning and styling a wedding at Historic Carnton Plantation was right up my alley.  The 1847 restored garden is amazing, not to mention the magnificent 150 year old Osage orange tree and Greek Revival porches….just makes me swoon thinking about it (said in my best Scarlett voice).

The 1826 family home of the McGavock’s is the perfect backdrop for a wedding.  I look for Rhett every time I am there.  With the back of my hand pressed against my forehead, fiddle dee dee!  (Again, Scarlett voice.)

The sweet couple had some major time restraints and needed to get married before the groom (lead guitarist for Paramore) had to rejoin the band on tour.  Now anyone who lives in this area knows that spring weather is really unpredictable….so needless to say, I had a backup plan in case Mother Nature decided not to cooperate.

Late Thursday afternoon the bride and I (after both looking at the weather radar map) decided that we were not going to order the tent for the garden. YIKES!  So on Saturday morning when I woke up to a downpour I was concerned that maybe we had made the wrong call.  The rain finally stopped and I was able to load my SUV and head over to the site to start setting up.  While I was wiping down tables and making a few adjustments to the floor plan a beautiful rainbow appeared over the house…..and guess what?  I didn’t have my camera.  Figures!

Jenna and Josh had a beautiful day and I was so happy to share it with them.

These flowers were in big mason jars and we hung them from six Shepard’s hooks  down the aisle.
