Matthew & Alicon Part 1

June 14, 2011 } Blog, My Franklin Favorites, Real Weddings, Wedding inspirations { by Kelly | 3 Comments

I love planning weddings, but I really love planning weddings for friends.  My friend Courtenay introduced me to her brother Matthew and his fiance Alicon a few months before their wedding.  At that time they were talking about a private ceremony on a beach far away and maybe a send off party here for Franklin friends.  No need for a wedding planner….just some friendly advice and suggestions.  Over the next couple of months plans slowly changed (two or three times) and then it was time to roll up my sleeves and help them bring their unique vision to life on a conservative budget.

Once they decided exactly what they wanted I knew it was going to be just perfect!  A small intimate ceremony at Matthew’s parents house (a beautiful historic home in downtown Franklin) and a larger reception at The Red House, a favorite venue of mine!  I was so excited about the red and turquoise color palette, which fit the couple’s personality and style!

The dusting of snow was perfect….just as I planned it!

A private wedding ceremony is incredibly intimate and meaningful.

A sake toast!  I ordered personalized shot glasses for the favors.

During the set up someone knocked the sign off the table…it is a little crooked.

A special venue in downtown Franklin, Tennessee.

So many fun details to show you…stay tuned for Part 2!

A Carnton Wedding…

August 14, 2010 } Blog, My Franklin Favorites, Real Weddings, Wedding inspirations { by Kelly | 4 Comments

I love Franklin-really love it.  One of the things I love most about Franklin is its history.  (Southerners just love history.)  So of course planning and styling a wedding at Historic Carnton Plantation was right up my alley.  The 1847 restored garden is amazing, not to mention the magnificent 150 year old Osage orange tree and Greek Revival porches….just makes me swoon thinking about it (said in my best Scarlett voice).

The 1826 family home of the McGavock’s is the perfect backdrop for a wedding.  I look for Rhett every time I am there.  With the back of my hand pressed against my forehead, fiddle dee dee!  (Again, Scarlett voice.)

The sweet couple had some major time restraints and needed to get married before the groom (lead guitarist for Paramore) had to rejoin the band on tour.  Now anyone who lives in this area knows that spring weather is really unpredictable….so needless to say, I had a backup plan in case Mother Nature decided not to cooperate.

Late Thursday afternoon the bride and I (after both looking at the weather radar map) decided that we were not going to order the tent for the garden. YIKES!  So on Saturday morning when I woke up to a downpour I was concerned that maybe we had made the wrong call.  The rain finally stopped and I was able to load my SUV and head over to the site to start setting up.  While I was wiping down tables and making a few adjustments to the floor plan a beautiful rainbow appeared over the house…..and guess what?  I didn’t have my camera.  Figures!

Jenna and Josh had a beautiful day and I was so happy to share it with them.

These flowers were in big mason jars and we hung them from six Shepard’s hooks  down the aisle.

Rock and Roll Rehearsal Dinner Part 2

June 14, 2010 } Blog, My Franklin Favorites, Rehearsal Dinners { by Kelly | No Comments

I just love this rehearsal dinner for several reasons.  One is that it was held at my friend Laura Hill’s event venue, The Red House in downtown Franklin, Tennessee.  This is an incredible venue that has so much personality and history and it was the perfect place to hold this rehearsal dinner.

The Red House

The next reason is that it fit the groom’s personality perfectly.  Josh Farro is the lead guitarist for Paramore.  Obviously music is a huge part of his life, but that wasn’t the only reason this was a great choice.  The Red House allowed the wedding party and family a very intimate and private place to gather and celebrate the couple’s marriage.

So with the venue picked, it was time to personalize the dinner.  I started with the invitations.   They were concert tickets and set the stage for the theme of the evening.

Josh & Jenna made CDs filled with some of their favorite songs for the favors,  a very personal touch that was a reflection of how thoughtful the couple was.

Josh’s Italian heritage was represented in the dinner menu that was served family style by Constant Cravings Caterers.

I added small wrapped candy bars to the table that matched the place cards and menus for added detail.  Once the lights were dimmed and the candles were lit the atmosphere was just amazing.

At the end of the night Josh, Zac & Taylor all signed the wall at The Red House (a tradition for all musicians that visit).  Check it out if you get a chance!

Paramore has a new album out and released a new video, Careful, directed by the talented Brandon Chesbro.   He also photographed Josh & Jenna’s wedding and I can’t wait to share some of those photos with you.

I hope you are inspired to personalize your rehearsal dinner!

So Sweet

Okay I like candy as much as the next person but the overwhelming popularity of the candy bar for weddings is amazing.  Such a hot trend and why not?  Candy makes people happy!  So how about some inspiration?

My Flower Guy

Every girl needs a flower guy….you know a go to florist that can deliver great centerpieces, wedding florals and anything in between.  Garden Delights is just that….a delightful store in Grassland with my flower guy Steve.

I stopped by the other day to talk “flowers” for a wedding I am planning and did a little shopping too.  Here are a few of my finds.
